1986 25 hp Tilt Lever Stop Screw

I have an '86 25 HP ML and the tilt lever stop screw is loose or stripped partly and I'm afraid it will fail soon and then I won't be able to tilt the motor up and have it lock. Does this screw thread into the side of the swivel bracket assembly or does it attach through the assembly with a nut on the other side? I can't tell from the diagrams I'm looking at in my Clymer's book. If it threads into the assembly can I drill it out and put in a helicoil?

Thanks in advance,
GD

Re: Tilt Lever Stop Screw

post a pic so we can have a better idea of what you have.

I'll try to get a picture of the area I'm talking about in a day or two. I've been very busy with a "Honey do List" and I have just been looking at the boat out the back window for a while now.

Tilt Lever Stop Screw - Photo

Here is a photo of the screw/bolt in question. Again what I need to know is: does this have a nut on the other side that it attaches to or does it attach to the framework directly?

Re: Tilt Lever Stop Screw

Probably 8 mm. The screw is unique or you could just tap it out larger. A helicoil may be the only answer.
