2006 6HP Tohatsu not running right

My 2006 Tohatsu 6HP outboard just isn't running right after not starting it all winter. It starts normal and when I push the choke in it starts to rev pretty high RPMs as the choke is about half way in. When the choke is about 3/4 in the motor will shut off unless I turn the throttle all the way up. I changed the spark plug and I'm using fresh fuel. Any ideas? Thanks!

Agree with pvanvy… at years’ end before storage, treat your gas with Stabill just to be sure. Stabill lengthens the gas life and even if you run the engine dry the old gas remains in the lines to a point. Even if you dump the tank you’ll never get all of the gas out without a major ordeal. Your explanation of the problem tells me gum and/or trash in the fuel system; especially the carb. Hope this helped…
