Oil pump light

How do i know the oil pump is working properly. Is there a way to check the light to be sure its ok. The light does not come on when the boat is in gear and moving.:confused::confused:
 
We need a little more information...

What HP motor do you have?

What is its serial number?

Where is your oil light? On the engine? On the shift box? On the key switch assembly?

The light should be on when the engine is running, but the method to check is different from certain small engines to the large ones.
