HELP HP50A 2004 50 hp carburetor problems

"We have 2 Honda HP50A, 2004, serial number BAZL 3404660, which need replacement of all carburetors. I urgently need to find out which parts I need (spare parts number and other parts that I need with replacements) - we live on a small island and can only order over the internet, unfortunately the last ones I ordered did not fit!
Thanks so much for your help.

"Since you live off way off the Coast of Africa, your serial number may not be used as they are in the United States. So what I am about to say may not be totally accurate for your motor.

You say that your motor is a 2004. By serial number it comes up to me as a 1999. A BF50AX model...

If your motor has a choke that you activate or pull out on the front of the motor, it is not a 2004 by U.S. chronology.

In 2004, the carb design changed to use fuel enrichment to start...meaning that there was no choke on the motor and all you do is turn the key to start. Those are probably the carbs that you ordered. They are not a direct replacement for the carbs on the engine with a choke.

You may want to check out boats.net and compare the pictures with what you have or are looking for. http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard%20Engine/parts.html

Compare the BF50AX with the BF50A4 models."

"Hi Mike,

thank you so much - so nice to hear from someone who knows what he is talking about. Things start to make a bit more sense ...

The engines were bought in Dubai and are 2004 models; we start them with a key, not choke. I ordered the carburetors on boats.net and that's what I received (they do not fit):
2 of these:

and one of:
http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/H-16102-ZW4-D21.html
Now I am starting to wonder if the ones we received are the ones for the motor with choke?
I would really appreciate if you could help me with this. Thanks so much.

Re: HELP HP50A 2004 carburetor problems

Since you say you do not have a choke, the carburators that you indicated that you have are definitely not correct.

Click here for the 2004 carburators.
http://www.boats.net/parts/search/H...3400001 TO BAZS-3499999/CARBURETOR/parts.html

Please check the picture and compare it to your carburators. Look at part number 18. It is round and white and located in the top of the top carburator.

If you have part 18 on your carbs then these should be the right ones. There really was only one major carburator design change for the BF50 since 1995, when it was introduced.

So, unless there has been some design change outside the United States that I have not heard of, the carbs indicated above should be the correct ones. Just make sure you have a part number 18.

I wish I could be absolutely sure, but since your serial number scheme is different than the U. S., it makes it impossible.

I hope this helps.

Mike
