Jumper wire and boot 1986 4 hp

"I have to replace a jumper wire in a 1986 4h.p. merc.the wire coating is falling apart. I was looking for the part on line,they are nla. Is thier anyway that I can make the wire, thier is a boot connected to the end which ties into the contact set. The block doesn't look like copper,I was going to try to solder the same gauge wire to the block. Any Ideas? Bud"

"You can pretty much use any automotive wire (and the related connectors) on your outboard and it will work fine.

Over time you would be better off with Marine wire (which is automotive wire that has been "tinned" to help prevent corrosion), but on a portable model such as yours, I would simply use auto wire of similar gauge and jury rig up whatever connector or mount or what ever you need....."
