"Was rummaging around my piles

"Was rummaging around my piles of stuff the other day a came across a new Quicksilver Digital Tach and hr meter combo. This thing is tiny, black box about 2 inches square with a LCD screen and a reset button. It has 2 connection wires. One white with a terminal lug and the other is red with no lug. Anybody got any idea as to what this would be used on??"

It sounds like you have a &#34

It sounds like you have a "tiny tach" that was built for/marketed by Merc.

If so it is used on small single or two cylinder (2 stroke) outboards that normally don't have the allowance for a regular tach.

It will normally have a thin wire (lead) about 10 feet long which is simply wrapped around the number one sparkplug wire (suspect the red wire in this case) with the white wire most likely an engine block ground wire (or could be to power the thing (??) - I have never seen a Quicksilver model).

The units normally have a built in battery which can not be replaced so the unit is replaced (whole) once they die.

The Tiny Tach models (plus a couple off shoots) are still on the market and sell for about 30 bucks....
