Bearing installation 1991 115 hp

"when installing main bearings on a 1991 mercury 115 4 cylinder, is it ok to use hilton hyperlube on the bearings in order to get them to stay in place. Also, is it proper to use two stroke oil to install the piston assy in cylinder bore? thanks, Ron"

"Ron I am not familiar with the Hilton product you note so can't say if it would be ok.

Merc recommends that those bearings (upper crank, needle, roller(cage) etc) be installed using 2-4-C with teflon which is pretty much just a high speed bearing grease - and it's sticky enough that it will hold things where they belong.

And yes, 2 stroke oil is called for to oil the rings/cylinder and they also suggest that it be used to oil the lower crank bearing (instead of using 2-4-C but do call for 2-4-C on the o-ring at the bottom of the lower crank bearing) during installation....."
