"Looking at a Tohatsu 115HP. I’ve read variations on how to take compression on a 2 cycle. I’m a 4-cycle mechanic and don’t much about two cycle engines. Here are my questions?
Take it hot, cold or both? Throttle lever at neutral or wide open? All plugs in and test one cylinder at a time, or, all plugs out? Leak down test duration? What did I miss?
I know to kill ignition and know it's variations by cylinder not how high it is.
Thx

It doesn't really matter as your gauge and the gauge that was used form the spec are not going to be the same. Just look for even numbers between the cylinders. Over 5 lbs off from one to the other means excessive wear. Over 10 off means there is an issue. Over 15 off means junk pile.

All plugs in except the one you are testing. For the leak down we use 5 minutes as the magic point. The key thing there is to make sure you test each cylinder at the same point in the stroke movement."
