i would like to know exactly w

i would like to know exactly what year and type my merc outboard is. the guy i bought it from said it was a '98 but i have my doubts. where exactly do i find the serial number to look up the year etc? it's a 4cl. thanks
 
i looked there and all i could

i looked there and all i could find was a sticker that says void all over it. there should be one on the block somewhere. i'll look there. thanks for your help
