"Marlin, that is a 1985 Yamaha built (for Merc) Mariner model 5C.

It is a 2 stroke, water cooled motor.

As to value - not much - it has a few things working against it.

First off it is 100% Yamaha based on their own model 5C which began production in 1980.

So the technology was 5 years old when your model was built and the mid-80's saw quite possibly the biggest leap in outboard technology (ignitions in particular) in the past 50 years - unfortunately yours was designed before that leap.

While carb and waterpump kits are still available from Merc, none of your ignition components are currently available (long discontinued).

That means the motor is on "borrowed time". Since this was not a very prolific model even used parts may be impossible to find so something as simple as a coil could render the motor useless.

Couple that with it being a single cylinder (notorious for shaking like a wet dog on a cold day no matter how well it's tuned) and I would have to consider it a "disposable" motor.

Great as long as it runs but not worth fixing if anything major breaks.

If it was absolutely mint and running perfectly I would peg the value at maybe 150 bucks.

In comparison, a 1986, 6 horse (twin) Merc with a T4 ignition would sell for well above $600..."
