"This is a 3 wire tach that plugs into the controller. Its a Merc Tach. I like everything to work, even if its not a badly needed item. Where does it get its signal from? Think the problem is more the tach? Or the signal?? The movement is real sluggish. Ive got a wireing diagram but I just cant see it well enough to trace the source.
Got the carbs setup pretty good, will idle so slow I can almost count the revs. Thanks for the help!!!"

"Alan the tach gets it sig from either yellow/red stripe wire on the rectifier.And, in the case of some of the older mercs,from the brown wire on the switch box if you have the old style analogue tach.I have been told that some of these tachs are specifically for the 6cyl mercs and have no adjustment switch on the back."

old style analogue tach does not exist anymore. Move the brown wire off the sw box. and onto the rectifier yellow. Use the modern tach set to 6P.
