Mecury mariner engine swap

I have a 1990 Mariner 115 and

I have a 1990 Mariner 115 and it has a few teeth worn on the ring gear and it needs a new prop. I found a 1996 Mercury 115 with a hole in the side of the motor eveything else is good. Could i put my motor in the mercury housing to replace just the blown motor.
 
You should be able to swap the

You should be able to swap the L/U or the P/H. There are are 2 different L/U's. The reverse gear is different. Either will work on either engine but the geometry of the shift linkages in the bucket will be different and must be kept together.

The L/U has a marking on top that is cast into the unit on top in front of the zinc tab bolt.
