"I just resealed and seals gas

"I just resealed and seals gaskets on my water drive shift and shift linkage,when I removed the containing plastic plate from my shift linkage ,the shift rod came out with it,so I put rod back and put the lower unit back on the motor,now my motor is stuck in forward.I removed the lower unit to see if I put linkage rod on wrong,not sure whats wrong I twist the rod and it spins freely,no clicking or anything ,1991 merc 90 Hp 3 cylinder I not sure what wrong anyone have any suggestions,any help will be much appreciated Thanks Rob"

"found the problem ,had to disassemble the hole lower unit,and the cam linkage was laying in the back,put back together works perfect now,it was alot easyier then I thought to disassemble lower unit."
