1989 Mariner 200hp gear shift

My old throttle broke so I rep

My old throttle broke so I replaced it with a teleflex one and now it seems that I really have to push the throttle forward to get it into gear. It will shift into gear like normal but than it seems like it slips out at slow idle until I gas it some than it is locked in. What is the best way to fix this.

Try adjusting the cable (m

Try adjusting the cable (make it a little shorter by fiddling with the adjusting nut).

Your old shifter may have had a little (more throw) than your new one - even 1/4" can make a significant difference...
