2006 250 hp outboad alarm

"Hi Guys,

i just bought a boat with twin 250, 2 stoke around 2006/7 outboards but whilst they are running at sal 1000rp i am getting an alarm like when i first star them up.

the port enging is running a little hotter than the other, could this have anything to do with it??

any help would be apreciated.

First off your motors are probably a little older than you think. Merc discontinued the majority of their 2 stroke line-up in 2005.

The guardian system on these models "checks" a few different things and depending on what the alarm sounds like, it's telling you what might be wrong and with later model motors it's the combination of the alarm plus an (idiot) light on the smartcraft (or smartcraft style) gauges that will tell the whole story.

Intermittent beeps usually indicates low oil and a steady "beeeeeeeeeeeeep" could indicate either an overheat or no oil at all."
