1997 Mercruy 90 hp Clutch Shot Replace gears too or not

"This may be a repeat but here's question a second time.

My Mercury 90 clutch is gone. In taking it apart, the forward gear engagement teeth are fairly rounded out. What's the recommended practice - Replace only the clutch and forward geer or should I replace the clutch and the entire gear set. Any ideas ? Pros/Cons ?"

Do you have the gear shimming tools?
I am against rebuilding most older 3 jaw reverse cases. It may not hold up. Hard to tell.

There is a known problem with some where the shift rod bushings wear out in the front of the case. This cannot be repaired. This was spelled out in a old service bulletin. Basically DNR.

Yours is near that if range IIRC.

Thanks for your input. What's the best way to determine if the shift linkage bushings have given up the ghost so I don't waste any more time or money on this.
