my boats in the shop and the mechanic is telling me i need a new engine due to damage caused from an exhaust manifold failure that allowed water to feed directly in to the engine. he offered me three fixes.
1: buy new rebuilt block and rebuild/swap rest of engine 7900$
2: buy certified pre owned engine complete package 8100$
3: they have a previosly owned 5.7l mpi mercruiser in stock 7600$
my current engine is a 5.7l efi carburated mercruiser.
which option sounds best to you pros?
what concerns should i have on the previously owned mpi?
what qustions should i ask?

help me if you can!

"This is what I would do. This is a brand new 330 hp 5.7 MPI built by Crusader as a replacement for the Mercruiser 5.7.

It is complete with the exception of coupler, engine mounts, bell housing, PS pump, belts and pulleys and the alternator.

I just put together a boat show special of $7,950.00 installed. This is a brand new engine with a one year warranty. He should be willing to do this for the same price. If not, shop around.

Here is a link to pics of a 30 SeaRay I just finished.

I hope this helps,

Your question should be posted

Your question should be posted in the Mercruiser section. You will get much better response there. If used in salt water you should seriously consider a full closed cooling system.
