"Hey guys,

I recetly bought a fletcher boat with 140 HP Johnson outboard engine on it. I opened the gear assymbly and I have been searching for the best repair manual to complete the work "properly" but I dunno which model is the engine and I can not see a tag anywhere. I can only see 333686-2 on the top of one cylinder case and 333686-4 on the other case ....

Another query please ... any idea how to remove the internal (last) pinion and the long shaft that comes before it ? Should I just pull it ?

Thanks in advance ..

The model number (and seri

The model number (and serial number) should be on a plate on the transom bracket and also stamped on a core plug on the engine powerhead.

the model number will identify it

"Well I don't think that pulling on the gear set is the answer to removing the forward most gear. Have you removed the drive shaft? If not,the gear on the end of the drive shaft will keep the forward most gear from coming out of the housing.
If that's an electric shift model, treat the gear case and all the parts with great care.
Just wondering...why are you taking the gear case apart? If you haven't figured it out yet, there are many special tools needed to disassemble and reassemble a gear case. This is not a task for someone with little or no experience and lacking the proper tools for the job.I'm not trying too be mean, but if you can't figure out how to find the model of the motor,I doubt very much that you should be taking the gear case apart.

Best of luck."

"Dear Guest,

Iam not an expert marine engine mechanic but I know that Iam a good bike mechanic, carb specialist and I also customize bikes. I will be very pleased to help you out in anything related to bikes.

Opening the gear was very easy to me. I opened it because the shaft was jammed and I found water in the oil gear (milky). Hence I decided to do a complete overhaul (i.e bearings & seals), the opinion is in good shape, its not an electric shift type.

As to the model number. I can tell you yes it was hard for to find the model of the engine as Iam sure it will be difficult for you to find a bike engine number. Nevertheless, the tag was removed from the bracket and the core plug has number which is not the serial number.

I posted pictures here hoping to find someone who could identify the engine.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. If you want knowledge, do it and find out."

"Thanks JWB for the advice. It is now opened. The first pinion was removed after pulling the bearing hub (that piece that hold 2 bearings .. sorry dunno what its called !), then opened the long shaft by loosening its nut, pulled it out and finally had to push the shifter down to pull the rest of the shaft.]

I can put it back together but I thought it is better to get the manual in case there are factory tips for assembling.
