"I've been having trouble chasing down the burn rate of a 2009 Honda 40 EFI at full rated output. It would be even better to have fuel consumption curves at different prop power demands but I've not been able to find either. Do any of you folks have this data? Thanks,

"Hi James,
I don't think

"Hi James,
I don't think you're being ignored but you probably didn't get a reply from the group for the same reason I didn't reply. That info is pretty subjective unless you want some sort of test stand data and I would think you would need to contact Honda's engineering department for that. Boat size, type and weight as well as loading, trim, speed and propeller data would skew any hard and fixed fuel consumption data. Also consider upwind, downwind, upswell, downswell, etc... and I would think the best data you could get is what you develope yourself through operation and observation."

"Thanks for the response Jimmy

"Thanks for the response Jimmy. I agree all those factors confound having a cross boat comparison at a fixed RPM. However, at full rated RPM (WOT) we know that a correctly propped engine is producing max HP and this is an attribute of the engine rather than one of the boat. Different boats will certainly be going different speeds but, at full engine output, the constant will be horsepower output and fuel burn.

I'm just after fuel burn at WOT. Thanks,

"Hi James,

It is my underst

"Hi James,

It is my understanding that today's outboard horsepower ratings are attributed to the powerhead at the crankshaft on a dynomometer.

At any rate though, here is a link to a formula that I came across that may or may not satisfy your needs.

http://www.ankn.uaf.edu/Publications/VillageMath/outboard.html

Based on this, (40hp/15) you would require just under 11 gallons (U.S.) for a 4 hour, full throttle run.

I wouldn't stake my life on it though."
