i installed a new impellar on

i installed a new impellar on my 1990 40hp mercury. i put shifter in forward when i started and after all was back together the prop and the shifter were not right. how can i correct this? thanks
 
Try putting both in Neutral--t

Try putting both in Neutral--that works very well. You' need someone to turn the flywheel as you stab it back up there.

i put both in neutral position

i put both in neutral position bolted it back together and ive got forward and neutral but no reverse. any suggestions? thanks
