The story goes- my buddy got this engine with a boat he had aquired through craigslist for free.. the old man personally ran the engine in front of him and said the only thing that the whole package needs is some patching on the hull...

So we took the boat out about 2 months later for a spin around the lake, ended up not being able to get the engine to run =( so we loaded it back on the trailer and brought it home where it sat for the next year or so; thats when I got the idea to use the engine on another project. I squirted some starter fluid in it, cranked, and it revved up for a second and then stopped, now it wont even fire a little.

after a little bit of tinkering, i noticed one of the points was entirely closed and the other was slightly open.. "i know nothing about points" sooo, does anybody know how to set them? also- a wire going to a rounded object broke off and im wondering if its useful or not...

"after another 45 mins of tinkering, i figured id get out the feelers and set the points at .020 like it says on the flywheel... it couldnt hurt.

Set the points, filled it with some carb cleaner gave it a crank and whatta ya know, it..... sputters atleast.. better than nothing at all =)

also- i hooked the mystery wire back up to the mystery widget it was originally connected to. whatever it does.

now i just gotta find a way to feed fuel to it tomorrow and ill be all set for disassembly."
