how do i change out the fluid

how do i change out the fluid in my lower unit? and how do i verify its needs changing the gasket or seals? i pulled screw and a thick creamy fluid just kind of slowly came out....

"If the oil is milky it has water in it. you should investigate the cause and rectify it. It should be clear and bright

You drain the oil by removing the two broad flat headed screws from the gear case and letting it run out.

do NOT remove the smaller (Philips headed ??) screw or the shifter mechanism inside will came adrift ... that is its pivot pin!

water could be entering via the prop shaft seal, the driveshaft seal, the spaghetti seal between the two halves, the shift rod seal or jst the filler/level plug screws

A pressure/vacuum test is the professional's way of locating the leak but you can just replace the whole lot.

When you refill you do so using a squeezable bottle or a pump via the bottom hole until it flows from the top one.

While you are replacing seals it makes sense to overhaul the waterpump as well.
