OceanPro 200 stalls in reverse

"When shifting to reverse, then increasing throttle the revs don't pick up and it finally stalls. This is tied up at the dock. The gear/throttle levers look like they are moving correctly.
Forward is fine.
This after I have been fighting a remote/cable problem. ???
I tried disconnecting the shift kill switch with no effect."

Not instantly. It seems like OK while still close to idle then if you rev up its like it has no power.
I'll verify which wire when I get back to the boat.

"Thanks. The engine is from 1998 and I have a single lever control. It broke the tang which operates the gear shift cable, so I had to change to the opposite tang ( for the left hand mount situation) to get it going for the family weekend. Of course, the gear handle function is now backwards! Makes docking more interesting.
In Antigua all parts have to be personally imported and it takes time."
