"I have a 175hp Johnson with s

"I have a 175hp Johnson with serial number stamped to the freeze plug B392868 or B362868, I need to know the year and model of my engine. Second question is, someone told me that if fuel comes out of the front of the carbs they need cleaning, it idles rough and dies when not revved(true or not?) Next question is there was oil coming from the lower unit when started, should there be oil coming from there? Any help from you guys will go a long way thanks.

"Johnson/Evinrude use the Mode

"Johnson/Evinrude use the Model number to denote model year. You can find it on the port side of the transom bracket. It will look something like this:

J175VLSSS

J=Johnson
175=horspower
VL=White 20" shaft standard rotation.
SS=Model year 2000 (See chart below)
S=Model series. No real significance.

I = 1
N = 2
T = 3
R = 4
O = 5
D = 6
U = 7
C = 8
E = 9
S = 0

for example, CO = 1985, EU = 1997 etc...."

"If you can post some pictures

"If you can post some pictures, we can probably get you in the ballpark for model year."
