"Hello,

I have purchased a "project" boat and motor and need some help.

The motor is a 1968 Johnson v4 65 hp (VXL-14B) which is attached to a 1969 Glastron v156 Sportster (16').

The motor was last started 3-4 years ago and the former owner stated that it ran fine. He did say it was leaking a little oil, but that was about it.

Question: What should I do to the motor before attempting to start it? Change the plugs?, change the oil in the gearcase?, clean the engine with a degreaser?, etc....

Also, does anyone know the history on this model?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike"

Try spraying RP7 or a similar

Try spraying RP7 or a similar type of flammible lubricant directly into the spark plug socket after taking them out. Works for me. Dont forget to check the oil before starting.
