GEN ii 4500 CONTROL PROBLEM 2009 50 hp

I recently purchased a new lowes center console boat that has a 09 50elpto merc with the gen 2 4500 controls. These control seem to be extremely stiff. It almost feels like something is rubbing inside the box. Any help will be appreciated.
 
I bet the cables have a bend t

I bet the cables have a bend to them just slightly right before the cables go into the shifter box. Try reaching the back side of the shifter and carefully move the cables around while moving the shifter handle till you find it moving smooth. Good luck with it.
