"Good afternoon and Happy New Year,

I have been a member of this forum for a couple of years now and have gotten lots of help over at the Volvo Penta Forum but now I need your guys help!!I volunteered to help with a local organization and my first chore next week is to change points and condenser for an old time fisherman on his 2 cyl 18HP evinrude. Im used to my I/O set-up.Could anybody just give me a quick pointer???Thanks a bunch for the help"

"if u do a search,u can find plenty of info...but,..points/cond r under flywheel,..before u do anything,..ck the cylinder compression,this determines if u have a viable eng to wk with...or other probs.
if comp ok,reasonably even,..the items that would need attn,after sitting up are:
tune up/poss coils and wires.
clean/rebuild carb/status of fuel pump
inst new wtr impeller or kit.
ck lower untit for wtr-chg oil..if wtr present,reseal lower unit,and ck gears."
