"My company just bought 8 50 HP 2009 Hondas, and three of them, after a 10 hour by the book break-in, are leaking gearcase oil out of the prop shafts. All three exhibit the same symptoms: White smoke at startup really bad, then big oil discharges, followed by periodic discharges during operation. Lower unit oil is being infiltrated with water in all three. The only thing they have in common that the other 5 engines don't is that they sat for 2 weeks for a positioning trip to Costa Rica after the 10 hour break in.
Side issue, one of them had a failed starter coil at about hour 15.
Any experience with these problems? Is this a normal behavior for new engines, or is there a defect?"
