"The tilt/trim unit on my 1997 Tohatsu 50 has stated to experience some hesitation when lifting. The tilt/trim motor runs a second or so before any lifting motion, and the motion slows down as it nears high lift position with girgling sound. Is this likely due to low or bad hydraulic oil in the unit? The hydraulic motor sounds like it's running OK. I've had the motor 2 years and have never checked or changed the hydraulic oil.
