"I have read many articles on this forum that say not to worry about the pickup timing, get the WOT timing correct! Why is this so? I have a 70 1977 Evinrude where the pickup timing is about 2-4 ATDC (Books says TDC) - the cable is adjusted fully but the cable does not full retract when in neutral an warm up lever is down. I can push the 'arm' connected to the throtle calble about 1/4" that will change the timing. Engine starts and runs fine so is this setting important or not? Thanks"

"this setting,IS important,..b

"this setting,IS important,..but does.nt chg unless somebody has been monkeying w/it..broken,bent,out of adj parts etc...it is part of a good tune up,is part of the 'linkage & synchronization' --link and sync-- it is the amnt of ign timing, when the carbs start to open..if ur's starts and runs fine--- dont fix it,if it aint broke!"
