"I have been working from the bow to the stern on this rebuild. I have rebuilt the Upper gear house and began on the lower drive.
The outdrive is a MC-1 with the pre-load pin. On the drive shaft just above the water pump house is an o-ring. When assembling the two cases will this o-ring slide past the lower seal in the upper gear house? From the wear marks on the shaft the o-ring groove is clearly above the lower seal.
Any general tips on assembling these two very important items?

The oring is there only to &#3

The oring is there only to "keep" greas on the splines from sliding away from the splines.

The oring does typically slide past the lower seal but not always.

It is not critical anyway.

Just put some real good and sticky grease on the splines and leave it off if you choose.

It definatly will be left behind next time the two halfs are seperated.

"Kghost,
Thanks for the input. I didn't realy want to have to disasseble the upper half of the leg. I can check that the ring passes through from the exhaust port. I hope a generous dap of assembly grease will help it put through.
Now on to the lower end.
