No reverse gear

"Have just replaced water seals on my 30hp honda outboard ,now i cant get reverse ,no trouble when motor not going,but wont engage when motor running!!All parts look to be in good condition.Is there anything that i am missing!!!Any help would be greatly appreciated ,as i am dying to go fishing p.s I have no problem getting forward gear . cheers"

"The first thing to double check is to see how you have connected the shift shafts back together when you put the lower unit back on.
If you screwed the top nut down too far, you may not get full reverse.

-Put the motor in reverse.
-Unlock the locking nut and screw the top connector bolt up until in no longer touches the shift shaft coming from the lower unit.
-Locate the bottom (small) locking nut about .3 inches from the end of the shaft. Hold it there as you screw the top connector bolt down to it.
Then lock the two together.

If this does not fix the problem, then you have left out a part on the prop shaft."
