I own a '94 Chaparral with a Merc 3.0L. The cockpit is the standard configuration (motor cover with seat on each side). I have been reading up on the need for after market fuel water separators to be installed.

I was wondering if anyone has a similar boat that they have installed a remote fuel water separator.

If so what manufacture?

Where is the best place to install the filter / housing?

Are there any special tools needed?

Any special circumstances / nuances to be aware of?

Thanks for any help in advance!

put it right before the fuel pump, but make sure it is accessible to replace the filter easily

try to make it level (in line) with the fuel pump also

no special tools need, just good hose cutters, screwdrivers, drill and some waterproof sealant for the mounting screws and bracket

to
if u go with another one make sure it is 10 microns

some guys use the racor one with the clear bowl"

"Place it before the fuel pump, but going to fine filtration (10 microns) before a fuel pump is a bad idea. Any significant pluggage of the separator will cause a lean out as the fuel pump can't pump vapors.

The place for fine filters (vs. strainers--coarse junk removal) is AFTER the fuel pump.
