"I found about a quart of water in the oil at the end of the season, when I changed the oil. I have removed the risers and elbows and they do not apear to be the problem. This is a 1987 boat used in fresh water should I replace the manifolds, risers and elbows or is there another way the water is getting in the engine?"

"How did it run all summer? Seems unlikely it would be a head gasket--I had that happen to mine and, believe me, you would know it!

I'd zero in on the manifolds, risers and gaskets. Water from a leak there runs downhill and enters the exhaust port, then slips past the rings and gets into the oil. Pay especial attention to bad gaskets and O-rings in swivel risers.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to chech the compression after I remove the manifolds. After removing the gasket and looking at the risers I see that the surface in the exhaust part of the manifold has a lip on part of the outer edge, is this normal? Or is this surface supposed to be flat?
