" I have a mercruiser engine that runs very well, carb just rebuilt, idle's down to 450 rpm. The problem is it only runs to about 3500-3700 rmp with throttle fully open. The engine is sound, could it be a bad distributor?

This is a merc 165 should run to 4500 rpm easily? "

"Yes, that's too low RPM (including the idle), but are you saying the engine ran faster at WOT before the carb rebuild? Check the simple stuff first, like making sure the linkage opens the butterflies all the way and the choke is releasing completely. No other symptoms like smoking, missing, etc? Boat and prop are the same as before? What do the plugs look like?

" i agree with croozertoo, you

" i agree with croozertoo, you just had the carb off.!! stick with it to make sure it's right...is the accel. pump working right?, the high speed jets?,float bowl level?,etc... just because the carb's rebuilt, Doesn't make it ReTuned...!!
PS, get your idle up to 600 or better.... "
