I have twin 454 Crusaders in my 87 Egg Harbor and they have a "coil spring" choke" built into the block. One went bad and I just bent the spring to hold the choke opene for the summer but does not work for the colder weather. Has anyone tried running a manual choke cable to the engines or just be satisfied with the coils? Thanks - Tim on Squared Away

"You can put one in but don't get the kit from the auto parts store. that thing will rust before you know it.

It will be cheaper to change the coil than to buy a good cable for a remote manual choke. Another option would be to rig up a rod, similar to what is used on outboards."

"Those springs are still available. (Look on the web.) As an alternative, you can replace them with an electronic choke kit. J C Whitney used to sell them.
