I've got a 2003 BF15D elec

I've got a 2003 BF15D electric start. I've heard the 15 and 20hp have the same platform and I would love a bit more power. Anyone know if I can upgrade to 20hp by just swapping out the carb and prop from the similar model 20hp or if there are more parts/complexity involved?
thanks!!!

It is not so easy.

The 20 H

It is not so easy.

The 20 HP indeed has a different carburator and jets...but it also has a different cam and cdi. Those are the major differences.

9.9 HP is to allow use in locations that restrict to 'less-than-10 HP'.

There is a throttle ristriction that if removed, will give you about 13 HP.

A Google search would give you a lot of details on the subject."

"In 2001, the 9.9 was redesigned. There are no longer any throttle restrictions that I know of.

Some of the older 9.9's did have a physical restriction on the throttle mechanism.
That is when the 9.9 and the 15hp had the same block.

The current 9.9 and 15 have different size blocks, although design is similar. So upgrading a 2001 or later 9.9 to a 15 is a major change."
