"I just changed the oil in a b

"I just changed the oil in a boat new to me ,aq-145a , and ended up whith the oil level an inch too high on the dipstick. If I'm reading the Seloc manual correctly , 11 U.S. pints ( 5.5 ) qts. should be normal. Before the oil change the dipstick read on the high side of the serrations. After seeing this I measured the oil that I drained out , only 3 qts.! The boat (houseboat in the slip) seems level as well as the engine. The dipstick appears to be stock.
Any ideas ?"

"How did you drain the oil out

"How did you drain the oil out ? I found on one of my boats, that if you try to drain the oil out BEFORE removing the filter, you don't get all the oil out. This would be a bigger issue on boats with remote filter kits (mine) and oil coolers (some Volvo 4 bangers)"

"Yep , that's how I draine

"Yep , that's how I drained it. I would have thought that after 30 min. of run time if there was 2 qts. of black oil still in the engine it would look a little used on the stick , maybe not."
