"I'm fairly new to boating but somewhat mechanically inclined with puttering with classic cars over the years. I recently purchased my 2nd boat, a used 2003 Campion Chase 580i with 5.0 MPI Merc Alpha 1 drive. The final drive oil level inspection bottle was at the full line when I started. After approx 5 hours the level was at the bottom line. ???? I added to the full line and after the 2nd 4-6 hours it was down again.
No visible leaks. None in the bilge. No rainbows in the water.
Any hints? I'm about to have it winterized and want some opinions before I send it in so I can be somewhat informed beforehand. I intend on having the bellows replaced as there is a small crack in 1 that weeps water into the bilge. I didn't read anything on the bottle about it being that expensive "dissappearing" oil so I'm assuming that they'll find the oil then.
