Having problems with alternato

Having problems with alternator ?? cooking batteries. Gagues on dash read around 12-14. Need to know where the regulators are located are they internal or on the side of the block? or does anyone have any other ideas of whats causing my problem. You can smell the acid from the batteries when driving boat. and to touch the batteries.. definately hot.

Regulators are internal.what is the voltage reading directly on the battery post with the motor running?
old bad batteries will do the same thing called "gassing"

"the batteries are new this year, interstate batteries. i haven't tested voltage reading yet, will do that today, thanks for the info on the regulator"
