Transmission Oil Pump

"I know this might be the wron

"I know this might be the wrong forum for this question, but there seems to be a ton of good info here.
My Velvet Drive Transmissions (I think they are 71s) are in Florida being overhauled. The guy called and said one unit had had water in it at some time, and the input shaft and oil pump needed replacement. I understand the pump is run off the input shaft, so you have pressure even when in neutral, but my set up has standard and reverse rotation engines.
So here's my question. Is the pump somehow able to pump oil in either direction, or is there two different pumps depending on rotation?
Or maybe it's the orientation of the pump during install?
Is there a way to check if the right pump has been used before the unit is installed back in the boat?
I think you guys can see where I'm going with this.

Thanks
Bob"

"same pump will handle either

"same pump will handle either engine. The pump housing has two arrows on it. The arrow matching the engine's rotation is positioned at the top and the four bolts torqued down.

If they get put in upside down, you don't get FWD or REV."

"Thanks Mark,
Is the arrow vi

"Thanks Mark,
Is the arrow visible on the unit when assembled?
Maybe remove the input seal to get to it?

I would hate to get the boat all back together and find out it won't go into gear."

"remove four bolts.
tap pump

"remove four bolts.
tap pump housing with no bounce
rotate to desired position
retorque bolts.

The arrows are cast as part of the cover:
