"several attempts to get this motor started failed in that turning the key would not activate the gauges, the solenoid, or starter. this was despite having 12+ volts at the ignition switch and between battery and starter. bizarrely, removed a blown horn fuse and unplugged the bilge pump connection and reconnected it. result is now the gauges all come on and solenoid activates when the key is turned. what does not happen is the starter does not engage. tried hitting with a hammer (moderately), but can't get it to engage (though i think i hear the motor spinning). any other suggestions short of pulling the starter? impossible question, but, how big a job is pulling the starter for a moderately experienced diy. opinions appreciated.
