"somethings going on and i'm not smart enough to see it.
96 merc 4.3. i replace the bad motor with another 4.3 and get ready to align the motor and it's off,way off. ok i can see where it might be off a couple turns. but i end up running the nuts all the way down [approx. 1.25"] and i'm still not quite there. the shaft is going in about 3/4 of the way and it seems the motor needs lowered some more. the only way i see it is if i start trimming the stringer down.
this just doesn't seem right to need to adjust the motor this much being as it's the same motor. i did look at the old block and compare mounting holes, seem the same. new motor is a 99 4.3
any ideas what i'm doing wrong or is this common to have to adjust 2" with the same style motor? thanks."
