Mercruiser 140 runs horrible

i have been beatng my head aga

i have been beatng my head against the wall for months now my 140 hp mercruiser wont run right it will idle ok but as soon as i try to accelerate in bogs out and wants to die throughout all rpms i have replaced the fuel pump and filters rebuilt carb replaced plugs wires cap rotor points and coil i am going to check the valve adjustment tomorrow but since the engine has maybe 5 hours on it since rebuild im doughting it will help does anybody have any ideas i would really appreciatte it maybe i can put this money pit in the lake sometime this decade

Is the timing actually advancing? Can you check it with a timing light? The light should move to advance when you hit the throttle. If it doesn't move you have a problem with the advance.

"Did it run properly the first 4.5 hours after rebuild?
Did this issue happen suddenly? or gradually worse since rebuild?


if gradual issue, things I would check for:
flame arrester clean
vacuum leaks
choke operation
fuel quality
compression
valve set (with compression gage)
