I have a 318 Chrysler with 9 h

I have a 318 Chrysler with 9 hours on it since a new rebuilt long block was put in. I know next to nothing about engines but the mechanic who put the engine in did a great job. It has been running great. Today when I started the boat it was squeeling and I noticed the belt was not spinning. I shut the boat off after it ran for about 10 seconds. What can cause this to happen?

"Adjustment on the belt is too loose? New belt? Check the belt tension, should only have about 1/4" deflection when pushed with good thumb force between the pump and the alternator At the same time look at Jeff's guess, see if the water pump turns. }"
