"Ran boat to plane speed and started to increase speed, depressed the trim button and the engine just died, fell flat on its face. Released button runs fine. Does not do this every time. Did notice that volt gauge dropped down to 10-11 volts when button depressed. Possible bad alternator regulator maybe? Any ideas greatly appreciated."

There's a dead short in the trim system.Look for broken wire on the wire from the switch to the pump or motor that runs your trim.
