"What experience, good and bad

"What experience, good and bad, have posters had with rebuilding their Yamaha 2 stroke outboards? I have a 1998 Yamaha 225 hp OX66 fuel injection which runs fine (125 compression on all six cylunders). I am in a qunadry as weather to do a rebuild when the time comes or move up to a four stroke. Gossip on the dock says that once an outboard engine is rebuilt it never runs as good as it once did and problems can be expected."

"lots of opinions on this, but

"lots of opinions on this, but I would just take excellent care/maintenance of your motor, and with any good luck, it'll probably run great for many more years, then if it ever tears up you can think about what to do then. my 1999 Yamaha 90C runs like a new motor, has the original plugs in it, never a problem at all, but I do take care of it. a powerhead rebuild for your motor might be in the $3000 range, give or take, so sooner or later it may be new motor time. Maybe by then somebody will have perfected the Mazda type rotary engine for an outboard. Good Luck!"
