Power steering fluid in 30 liter

"Added power steering fluid to

"Added power steering fluid to 1998 3.0 liter sx power steering pump. I put in Dexron III automatic transmission fluid in cold power steering. Over filled took, out overflow fluid. Ran boat next day. Put back in garage, took out drain plug noticed red fluid coming out of boat. It was transmission fluid. Power steering pump was empty. What did I do wrong. Help Richard Trott"

If DEXTRON III is what the system calls for, then you didn't do anything wrong.

If DESTRON III isn't, then there is always the chance that it "ate" the seals.

You do have to consider the following...
Why did you have to add fluid in the first place?? Normally these systems rarely require fluid make up UNLESS there is a leak.

Always the possibility that whatever leak required you to add fluid, got worse and you dumped all the fluid."
