Question for water pick up for speedometer

"I have a 2006 90hp tldi and it has a water pick up for the speedometer, but it never worked for me, I connected the water hose from the speedometer to the black hose that comes out the engine cowling but doesn't seem to put water out.

Can somebody tell me how I can clean or check this line ? Can I just blow it out with pressure air ?

"My Merc 90 had the pick up (pitot) on the front of the lower unit and once stopped working (not that outboard speedometers are noted for accuracy). I took a small drill bit and twisted it (BY HAND) and worked out the cra... er... gunk that was jammed in there. That worked for me, can't swear it will work for you. I don't think the water goes from the pitot to the telltale. If using compressed air, I would go from speedo back to pitot and not pitot in to avaid pushing more gunk further in."
