"if i shift into forward or reverse i get forward. alpha 1, quicksilver commander. any ideas what i did wrong?"

"i had the outdrive off to replace trim switches, replaced waterpump (so i separated the upper and lower. the shifter will engage gear by using throttle button, and is very difficult to shift by using neutral lock bar."
 
i had the same problem with my

i had the same problem with my boat. i cal the local shop and they told me to get both halfs in netural and slide it back together. we did it and all is well expect one little issue i have. but i would try it this way
